Evaporator Core: Service and Repair
EVAPORATOR
Tool Required:
J 38042 Dual 0-Ring Joint Separator
Important: Brazed fitting are on the condenser and evaporator. These fittings cannot be turned because the fitting is brazed to the pipe. It is important that the service technician recognize which fitting is to be turned and use backup wrenches. The brazed fitting is not to be turned is always the same color as the pipe it is brazed to (unpainted or unpiated aluminum).
Remove or Disconnect
Recover refrigerant from A/C system, refer to Heating and Air Conditioning; Service and Repair.
1. Accumulator, refer to Accumulator, Air Conditioning; Service and Repair.
2. Blower control module
3. Vacuum tank
4. Evaporator tube
5. Blower motor, refer to Blower Motor; Service and Repair.
6. Brackets and heat shield from blower module assembly.
7. Cut blower module assembly insulation along indicated line.
8. Bolts attaching blower module assembly to front of dash (on driver's side of cut only).
9. Large piece of blower module assembly insulation.
10. Screws from evaporator cover.
11. Evaporator from vehicle.
Install or Connect
1. Evaporator into vehicle.
2. Evaporator cover and screws.
Tighten
- Screws to 5 N.m (44 lb. in.).
3. Blower module assembly insulation.
4. Bolts attaching blower module assembly to front of dash.
Tighten
- Bolts to 3 N.m (27 lb. in.).
5. Brackets, heat shield and attaching screws to blower module assembly.
Tighten
- Screws to 3 N.m (27 lb. in.).
6. Blower motor and fan, refer to "Blower Motor; Service and Repair.
7. Evaporator tube
8. Vacuum tank
9. Blower control module
10. Accumulator, refer to "Accumulator, Air Conditioning.
11. Evacuate, charge, and leak test A/C system.
