SHAFT LOCK, TURN SIGNAL CANCELLING CAM, UPPER BEARING SPRING, TURN SWITCH ACTUATOR, BUZZER SWITCH & LOCK CYLINDER SET

Disassembly
Wheels of vehicle must be in straight ahead position. Failure to do so may cause improper alignment of some components during installation, resulting in column malfunction.
1. Place key in ``lock'' position.
2. Remove screws from back of steering wheel and horn pad, disconnecting horn lead from cam tower.

3. Remove retainer and hex nut, Fig. 92, then remove the steering wheel.
4. Depress shaft lock, then remove shaft lock retaining ring.
5. Remove shaft lock and shaft lock cover, then the turn signal cancelling cam.
6. Remove upper bearing spring, then the thrust washer.
7. Place turn signal in right turn position.
8. Remove switch actuator arm attaching screw and the arm, then the turn signal switch attaching screws, positioning switch out of way. If it is necessary to remove switch, remove wiring protector and hazard knob, then gently pull wire harness through gearshift lever bowl shroud and steering column housing.
9. Remove key from lock cylinder set and remove buzzer switch and clip, then reinsert key in lock cylinder set and turn to ``lock'' position.
10. Remove lock cylinder retaining screw and the lock cylinder set.

Assembly
1. Install lock cylinder set, torquing retaining screw to 22 lb in
2. Place key in ``run'' position and install buzzer switch and clip.
3. Route turn signal switch wiring harness through steering column housing, gearshift bowl shroud and gearshift lever bowl and secure switch, torquing retaining screws to 22 lb in
4. Install switch actuator arm, torquing attaching screw to 18 lb in
5. Install thrust washer, then the upper bearing spring.
6. Install turn signal cancelling cam, then the shaft lock.
7. Depress shaft lock, then install shaft lock retaining ring.
8. Install steering wheel, then the hex nut and retainer.
9. Install horn pad and wiring protector.

STEERING COLUMN HOUSING, COVER END CAP, PIVOT & SWITCH ASSEMBLY, SWITCH ACTUATOR ROD/RACK, UPPER BEARING, DIMMER SWITCH & IGNITION SWITCH

Disassembly
1. Perform Disassembly steps for Shaft Lock, Turn Signal Cancelling Cam, Upper Bearing Spring, Turn Switch Actuator, Buzzer Switch & Lock Cylinder Set.
2. Remove steering column housing and dimmer switch attaching screws and the dimmer switch hex nut, then the dimmer switch and mounting stud.
3. On models equipped with cruise control, unplug connector from base plate and remove multifunction lever.
4. On all models, remove ignition switch, then the dimmer switch rod.
5. Remove steering column housing, then the shift lever gate attaching screws and the shift lever gate.
6. Remove switch actuator rod and rack assembly, lock bolt assembly and spring thrust washer.
7. Remove switch actuator sector, then the upper bearing retainer.
8. Remove bearing retaining bushing and horn circuit contact, then the bearing assembly.
9. Remove housing cover attaching screw and cover, then the switch actuator pivot pin and pivot and switch assembly.

Assembly
1. Install pivot and switch assembly to steering column housing, then install switch actuator pivot pin.
2. Install housing cover and screw, then the bearing assembly.
3. Install bearing retaining bushing and horn circuit contact, then the switch actuator sector.
4. Install switch actuator rod and rack assembly and lock bolt assembly, then the shift lever gate and attaching screws.
5. On models equipped with cruise control, plug multifunction lever connector and cruise control wire on wash/wipe switch together and mount on base plate, then install multifunction lever.
6. On all models, install upper bearing retainer, then the steering column housing with attaching screws. Tighten screw in 12 o'clock position first, screw in 8 o'clock position second and screw in 4 o'clock position third, torquing to 80 lb in

7. Install ignition switch and mounting stud, then adjust ignition switch, Fig. 89.
8. Install dimmer switch rod, then the dimmer switch and hex nut.
9. Adjust dimmer switch, Fig. 93.
10. Install dimmer switch attaching screw.
11. Perform Assembly steps for Shaft Lock, Turn Signal Cancelling Cam, Upper Bearing Spring, Turn Switch Actuator, Buzzer Switch & Lock Cylinder Set.

SHAFT & LOWER BEARING ASSEMBLY, GEARSHIFT LEVER BOWL SWITCH TUBE ASSEMBLY & LOWER BOWL BEARING

Disassembly
1. Remove screws from back of steering wheel and horn pad, disconnecting horn lead from cam tower.
2. Remove retainer and hex nut, then remove the steering wheel.
3. Remove steering column from vehicle.
4. Perform Disassembly steps 4 through 10 for Shaft Lock, Turn Signal Cancelling Cam, Upper Bearing Spring, Turn Switch Actuator, Buzzer Switch & Lock Cylinder Set.
5. Perform Disassembly steps for Steering Column Housing, Cover End Cap, Pivot & Switch Assembly, Switch Actuator Rod Rack, Upper Bearing, Dimmer Switch & Ignition Switch.
6. Remove lower bearing adapter clip, then the bearing adapter retainer.
7. Remove bearing assembly, then the lower bearing adapter.
8. Remove shift tube return spring and spring thrust washer, then the gear shift lever bowl and shroud.
9. Remove shift tube assembly, then the wave washer.
10. Remove lower bowl bearing.

Assembly
1. Install lower bowl bearing to jacket assembly.
2. Install wave washer, then the shift tube assembly.
3. Install gearshift lever bowl and shroud, then the shift tube return spring and spring thrust washer.
4. Install lower bearing adapter, then the bearing assembly.
5. Install bearing adapter retainer, then the lower bearing adapter clip.
6. Perform Assembly steps for Steering Column Housing, Cover End Cap, Pivot & Switch Assembly, Switch Actuator Rod Rack, Upper Bearing, Dimmer Switch & Ignition Switch.
7. Install steering column in vehicle.
8. Perform Assembly steps for Shaft Lock, Turn Signal Cancelling Cam, Upper Bearing Spring, Turn Switch Actuator, Buzzer Switch & Lock Cylinder Set.
