INPUT SPRAG - HOLDING
When the selector lever is moved to the Manual Third (3) position, the manual valve directs line pressure into the Drive 3 (D3) passage. Drive 3 oil flows to the following valves:
3-4 Shift Valve: Drive 3 oil pressure pushes the 3-4 shift valve closed allowing fourth clutch oil to exhaust and release the fourth clutch.
2-3 Shift Valve: Drive 3 oil feeds through the 2-3 shift valve into the input clutch passage and applies the input clutch.
SUMMARY
The transaxle can shift between First, Second, and Third Gears as in Drive Range, but is prevented from shifting to Fourth Gear. The input clutch is applied to give engine braking. Line pressure is the same as in Drive Range.
*In Manual Third," the converter clutch is shown released, but if the throttle is opened enough, the converter clutch could engage.
