Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

Troubleshooting Hints

1. Check LO Beam Lamps and HI Beam Lamps for damage to the filament or bulb.

CAUTION: Halogen bulbs contain a gas under pressure. Handling a bulb improperly could cause it to shatter into flying glass fragments. To help avoid personal injury:

Turn "OFF" the Light Switch and allow bulb to cool before changing bulbs. Leave the Switch "OFF", until bulb change is complete.

Always wear eye protection when changing a halogen bulb.

Handle the bulb only by its base. Avoid touching the glass.

Do not drop or scratch the bulb. Keep moisture away.

Place the used bulb in the new bulb's carton and dispose of it properly. Keep halogen bulbs out of reach of children.

2. Check Fusible Link Y for damage, refer to "Power and Ground Distribution".

3. If a LO Beam Lamp or HI Beam Lamp has been found damaged and an unusually high amount of moisture is noticeable in the Headlamp Capsule, check the Vent Tube and Drain Tube for restriction. Small amounts of moisture are normally found in the Headlamp Capsule, however, excessive moisture can damage the lamps.

4 Check the LH and RH Headlamp Capsule connectors to be sure the connector seal is not damaged or missing.

Check for a broken (or partially broken) wire inside of the insulation which could cause system failure but prove "GOOD" in a continuity/voltage check (see "Diagnostic Aids").

Check for proper installation of aftermarket electronic equipment which may affect the integrity of other systems (see "Diagnostic Aids").
