Fuel Filter: Service and Repair

Fuel Filter Mounting:

There is no service interval for fuel filter replacement. Only replace fuel filter if it is restricted.

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Relieve fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel System / Service and Repair. [1][2]Fuel System Pressure Relief Procedure
2. Raise vehicle and suitably support.

Clean
^ Clean both fuel feed pipe connections and surrounding areas at in-line fuel filter before disconnecting to avoid possible contamination of the fuel system.

3. Filter bracket attaching screw and filter bracket.
4. Quick-connect fittings.
5. Fuel filter.

INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Remove protective caps from new filter.
2. New plastic connector retainers on filter inlet and outlet pipe.
^ Install in same position as on old filter.
3. Quick connect fittings.
4. Align fuel filter bracket on frame with brake pipe mounting bracket and install filter bracket attaching screw.

Tighten
^ Fuel Filter mounting bracket to 27 Nm (20 lbs. ft.).

5. Lower vehicle.
6. Fuel filler cap.
7. Negative battery cable.

INSPECT
^ Turn ignition to "ON" position for two seconds, then turn to "OFF" for ten seconds. Again turn to "ON" position, and check for fuel leaks.
