Keyless Entry: Description and Operation
The Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) Control System allows the driver to operate the vehicle Door Locks and Tailgate and Luggage Compartment Lid Release from outside the vehicle using a hand held Radio Transmitter. The Transmitter operates in the UHF band; it sends coded signals to the RKE Module. The RKE Module detects and decodes the signals and issues signals to control the Door Locks and Tailgate and Luggage Compartment Lid Release. These systems can also be operated in the usual manner; for instance, the Door Locks will respond to the Power Door Lock Switch.Lock
When the "DOOR" Button is pressed on the Transmitter and the RKE Module receives a signal with a valid Vehicle Access Code (VAC), the Lock function sequence is performed. The RKE Module will lock all doors.
The RKE Module supplies battery voltage to the coil of the Lock Relay. The Lock Relay is energized, and battery voltage is supplied to the Door Lock Motors. Ground for the LH Door Lock Motor is provided at RKE Module terminal "C" connector C2 through internal contacts. Ground for the other Door Lock Motor(s) is provided through the contacts of the Unlock Relay of the Door Lock Relay Assembly. All Door Lock Motors ran to lock all doors.
Unlock
The Unlock function is separated into two operations depending on how the "UNLOCK" Button is pressed on the Transmitter. If the "UNLOCK" Button is pressed once, only the LH Door is unlocked. If the "UNLOCK" Button is pressed twice within 1 to 5 seconds, all doors will be unlocked.
When the Unlock Button is pressed once on the Transmitter and the RKE Module receives a signal with a valid VAC, the Unlock function sequence is performed. The RKE Module will supply battery voltage to the LH Door Lock Motor via the TAN (694) wire. The motor is grounded through the contacts of the Lock Relay in the Door Lock Relay Assembly. The LH Door Lock Motor runs to unlock the LH Door.
If the "UNLOCK" Button on the Transmitter is pressed twice to unlock all doors, the RKE Module will activate the Door Unlock output at pin D connector C2. The RKE Module will then supply battery voltage to the coil of the Unlock Relay in the Door Lock Relay Assembly. The Unlock Relay is energized and closes its contacts. Battery voltage is supplied to all Door Lock Motors except the LH Front. The motors are grounded through the contacts of the Lock Relay in the Door Lock Relay Assembly. The motors run to unlock the doors.
Trunk Lid Release
When the Trunk Lid Release Button is pressed on the Transmitter and the RKE Module receives a signal with a valid VAC, the RKE Module will supply battery voltage at its terminal "B" connector C2. This battery voltage is then applied to the Release Solenoid. The Release Solenoid is energized and the Trunk Lid can be opened.
Illuminated Entry
When the RKE System Unlock function is used (driver's door only or all doors), the RKE Module lights the interior lights by grounding CKT 156. The interior lights will remain on for approximately 40 seconds, or until the Ignition Switch is turned to "RUN."
When the Lock function is used, the RKE Module lights the interior lights for 2 seconds by grounding CKT 156 as a signal that the doors have been locked.
