Driver/Vehicle Information Display: Description and Operation

DESCRIPTION
The driver reminder package incorporates several warning and reminder features into one system. The system uses three distinct sounds, warning and reminder lights on the center instrument cluster.

If engine coolant level is three quarts or more low, a red LOW COOLANT warning light will illuminate and a fast pulsed tone will be heard. The light will remain lit and the tone will be heard until coolant is added to the cooling system. The light will also illuminate during engine starting as a bulb check.

When the headlight switch is in the On position and the ignition is Off, a red LIGHTS ON warning light will illuminate and a fast-pulsed tone will be heard. Turning the headlight switch to the right will dim the instrument panel lights and shutoff the tone.

When there is less than approximately three gallons of fuel in the tank, an amber LOW FUEL warning light will illuminate and a steady five second tone will be heard, however the lamp may not light until fuel level is diminished to as low as a 1/2 gallon. The light will remain lit until fuel is added to the tank. This warning light will also illuminate during engine starting as a bulb check.

The amber LOW WASH FLUID reminder light will illuminate while the windshield wipers are operated if the washer fluid reservoir is less than approximately 1/3 full. This light will remain lit during wiper operation until fluid is added.

Additional tones used to warn operator of potential problems are: engine overheating, fast pulsed tone; malfunction in the charging system, fast-pulsed tone; seat belt reminder, slow pulsed tone; key reminder, steady tone.
