General Description

Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) Circuit:

Purpose:
The VSS produces an A/C voltage signal that increases with vehicle speed. The PCM supplies the necessary signals to the instrument panel and utilizes the information to control the TCC, shift solenoids and cruise control systems.

Operation:
The voltage level and number of pulses increases with vehicle speed. The PCM converts the pulsing voltage to mph.

The VSS system uses an inductive sensor mounted in the transaxle to measure speed of final drive assembly. The VSS generates a voltage waveform, the frequency of this waveform determines vehicle speed.

Location:
The Vehicle Speed sensor is mounted in the transaxle.
