Cupholders are too Small or Inoperable (Replace Cupholder)

This bulletin is being revised to delete the 1996 model year. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 53-83-10 (Section 8 - Chassis/Body Electrical).
Condition
Some owners may comment that the cupholders are too small or are inoperable.
Correction
The following replacement procedure has been developed for cupholders that are too small or found to be inoperable. The cupholders ONLY are to be replaced, not the entire console trim plate.
Remove
1. Remove shifter trim plate (Figure 1, Item 1). Refer to Section 8C of the Service Manual.
2. Turn trim plate over, disengage cupholder return spring (Figure 1, Item 2).
3. Remove two E-clips (Figure 1, Item 3) from cupholder hinge rod.
4. Remove hinge rod (Figure 1, Item 4). Note position of return spring.
5. Remove cupholder (Figure 1, Item 5).
Install
1. Cupholder to trim plate (Figure 1, Item 1).
2. Reinstall cupholder hinge rod (Figure 1, Item 4), install return spring (Figure 1, Item 2) in same position as removed,
3. Reinstall both E-clips (Figure 1, Item 3) Parts Information.
4. Reconnect return spring.
5. Test cupholder operation.
