Center Console Cupholder Binding While Opening or Closing (File Burrs on Wire Latch)

CONDITION
Some owners may comment on the center console cupholder binding while attempting to open or close.
CAUSE
Wire latch has burrs on end which are causing wire to hang up on latch catch.
CORRECTION
The condition may be remedied by filing latch wire.
1. Remove shifter trim plate. Refer to Section 8C in the Service Manual.
2. Turn trim plate over, disengage cupholder return spring.
3. Remove two E-clips from cupholder hinge rod.
4. Remove hinge rod. Note position of return spring.
5. Remove cupholder.
6. Use small hand file, remove burrs from wire latch and round end. See illustration for wire location.
7. Use care not to bend wire latch.
8. Reinstall cupholder hinge rod, install return spring in same position as removed.
9. Reinstall both E-clips.
10. Reconnect return spring.
11. Test cupholder operation. If cupholder is still binding, replace shifter trim plate.
