Troubleshooting Hints
CAUTION: Halogen bulbs contain a gas under pressure. Handling a bulb improperly could cause it to shatter into flying glass fragments. To help avoid personal injury:^ Turn "OFF" the Headlamp Switch and allow bulb to cool before changing bulbs. Leave the Switch "OFF" until bulb change is complete.
^ Always wear eye protection when changing a halogen bulb.
^ Handle the bulb only by its base. Avoid touching the glass.
^ Do not drop or scratch the bulb. Keep moisture away.
^ Place the used bulb in the new bulb's carton and dispose of it properly. Keep halogen bulbs out of reach of children.
1. Check Suspect Headlamp Bulb for damage or open filament.
2. If a Headlamp Bulb has been found damaged and an unusually high amounts of moisture is noticeable in the Headlamp, check the Vent Tube and Drain Tube for restriction. Small amounts of moisture are normally found in the Headlamp, however, excessive moisture can damage the lamps.
3. Check the LH and RH Headlamp connectors to be sure the connector seals are not damaged or missing.
4. If one Headlamp does not work, check the bulb, connections and wires to the Headlamp.
5. If HI Beams do not light, but the HI Beam Indicator lights, check CKT 11 for an open (see schematic).
6. If the Headlamps do not turn "OFF"," check CKT 10 for a short to Battery. If OK, replace the Headlamp Switch.
7. If the "BRAKE" Indicator is lit with the ignition Switch in "RUN" and the Park Brake released, refer to Brake Warning System or Antilock Brake System for diagnosis.

8. If the Night Mode of the Daytime Running Lamps (DRL) Module is activated in bright light, check that the Ambient Light Sensor is not obstructed (by dirt or lint, for example).
9. OLDSMOBILE AND PONTIAC 2 Door Only: If LOW Beams do not stay on when Headlight Dimmer Switch is in "HI," check/repair CKT 10 wire for an open between S221 and S104.
10. If the Fog Lamps do not operate, check the Fog Lamp Relay Fuse.
11. If one Fog Lamp does not light, check the bulb, connections, and wires to the Fog lamp.
^ Check for a broken (or partially broken) wire inside of the insulation which could cause system malfunction but prove "GOOD" in a continuity/voltage check with a system disconnected. These circuits may be intermittent or resistive when loaded, and if possible, should be checked by monitoring for a voltage drop with the system operational (under load).
^ Check for proper installation of aftermarket electronic equipment which may affect the integrity of other systems (refer to General Troubleshooting Procedures). Diagnostic Aids
