Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Ignition Cable

TOOLS REQUIRED (or equivalent)
^ J-39200, Digital multimeter.

INSPECTION
1. Check the routing of the wires, improper routing can cause a crossfire.
2. Check each wire for any signs of cracks or splits in the wire.
3. Check each wire for broken insulation and arcing.
4. Inspect the spark plug terminals for corrosion or damage. Replace spark plug(s), and wire(s) and inspect distributor cap if any of these conditions are discovered.

MEASUREMENT
Measure the resistance of each spark plug wire (and the coil wire if equipped) with a J-39200 digital multimeter. Resistance should be approximately 5,000 to 10,000 ohms per foot. If the resistance reads above 30,000 ohms (no matter how long the spark plug wire is), or fluctuates from infinity to any value, replace the spark plug wire.
