Brake Pad: Service and Repair
REMOVE OR DISCONNECT1. Caliper.
Removing Shoe And Lining:
2. Outboard shoe and lining. Use screwdriver to disengage buttons on shoe from holes in caliper housing.
3. Inboard shoe and lining. Clean Before installing new shoes and linings, clean outside surface of boot. Use clean, denatured alcohol.
INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Bottom the piston into caliper bore. Use a C-clamp over caliper and piston, tightening it slowly to press piston into bore. Be careful not to damage piston or piston boot.
Lifting Boot To Remove Trapped Air:
2. After bottoming piston, use a small plastic or wood tool to lift inner edge of boot next to piston, and press out any trapped air.
NOTE: Boot must lay flat. Make sure convolutions are tucked back into place.
Installing Inboard Shoe And Lining:
3. Inboard shoe and lining by snapping shoe retainer spring into piston. Shoe must lay flat against piston. After installing shoe and lining, check that the boot is not touching the shoe. If it is, remove shoe and lining and re-seat or re-position the boot.
Installing Outboard Shoe And Lining:
4. Outboard shoe and lining with wear sensor at trailing edge of shoe during forward wheel rotation. Back of shoe must lay flat against caliper.
5. Caliper.
6. Apply approximately 778 N (175 lb.) force three times to brake pedal to seat lining.
