Instrument Panel Assembly Replacement




REMOVAL PROCEDURE
After a non-deployment accident, visually inspect the Instrument Panel (IP) assembly for damage or deformation. Any visible damage indicates structural damage and mandates IP assembly replacement.

CAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Cautions and Notices.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

CAUTION: Refer to SIR Handling Caution in Cautions and Notices.

2. Disable the SIR system.
3. Remove the IP center air outlet deflector housing trim plate.
4. Remove the center console if necessary.
5. Remove the cluster trim plate.
6. Remove the upper trim pad.
7. Remove the passenger inflator module.
8. Remove the right sound insulator.
9. Remove the knee bolster and the deflector.
10. Remove the PRNDL cable from the steering column if necessary.

IMPORTANT: Remove the steering column lower mounting bolts prior to removing the upper mounting bolts or damage to the lower steering column bearing may occur. Place a protective cloth on the steering column in order to protect the column from scratches.

11. Lower the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column -Tilt. Steering Column - Removal and Installation

12. Remove the bolts connecting the IP center bracket to the dash center support bracket.
13. Remove the nuts from the IP outer support brackets.
14. Remove the lower fasteners from the IP outer support brackets.
15. Pull away the IP assembly from the dash.
16. Disconnect the electrical connectors.
17. Disconnect the antenna coax cable.
18. Remove the IP assembly.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Partially Install the IP assembly.
2. Connect the electrical connectors.
3. Connect the antenna coax cable.
4. Align the IP assembly.

NOTICE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

5. Install the nuts to the IP outer support brackets.

Tighten
Tighten the fasteners to 9.5 Nm (84 lb in).

6. Install the lower fasteners to the IP outer support brackets.

Tighten
Tighten the fasteners to 9.5 Nm (84 lb in).

7. Install the fasteners to the IP center bracket.

Tighten
Tighten the fasteners to 9.5 Nm (84 lb in).

8. Raise the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement. Steering Column - Removal and Installation

9. Connect the PRNDL cable if necessary.
10. Install the passenger inflator module.
11. Install the upper trim pad.
12. Install the cluster trim plate.
13. Install the right sound insulator.
14. Install the knee bolster and deflector.
15. Install the center console if necessary.
16. Install the IP center air outlet deflector housing trim plate.
17. Enable the SIR system.
18. Connect the negative battery cable.
