Fuel Pressure Release: Service and Repair


Tools Required: J 34730-1A Fuel Pressure Gauge

NOTICE: Turn off the ignition key when disconnecting or reconnecting battery power in order to prevent system damage.




1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal to avoid possible fuel discharge if an accidental attempt is made to start the engine.
2. Loosen the fuel filler cap to relieve fuel tank vapor pressure.




3. Remove the fuel injector sight shield. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement Service and Repair.




4. Remove the fuel pressure connection.
5. Wrap a shop towel around the fuel pressure connection while connecting the fuel pressure gauge in order to avoid spillage.
6. Connect the fuel pressure gauge J 34730-1A to the fuel pressure connection.
7. Install the bleed hose into an approved container and open the valve to bleed the system pressure. The fuel connections are now safe for servicing.
8. Drain any fuel remaining in the fuel pressure gauge into an approved container.
