Compressor Replacement

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

TOOLS REQUIRED
J 39500-B A/C Refrigerant Recovery, Recharging, and Recycling Station

CAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Recover the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
3. Remove the drive belt.
4. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in Service Precautions.
5. Remove the compressor/condenser hose assembly from the compressor (2). Discard the sealing washers.
6. Disconnect the clutch electrical connector.
7. Remove the splash shield.
8. Remove the compressor bolts (1).
9. Remove the compressor-to-engine spacer (3).
10. Remove the compressor (2).

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

TOOLS REQUIRED
J 39500-B A/C Refrigerant Recovery, Recharging, and Recycling Station

1. Ensure that the compressor oil level is correct. Refer to Refrigerant Oil Distribution Specifications.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

2. Install the compressor (2) with the bolts (1).

Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).

3. Install the compressor-to-engine spacer (3).
4. Install the compressor bolts (1).

Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 33 N.m (24 lb ft).

5. Install the splash shield.
6. Connect the clutch electrical connector.
7. Install the compressor/condenser hose assembly using the new sealing washers.
9. Install the drive belt.

CAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.

10. Connect the negative battery cable.

Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 16 N.m (12 lb ft).

11. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
12. Test the system operation.
