Timing Cover: Service and Repair


Removal Procedure





1. Remove the engine oil pan. Refer to Oil Pan Replacement.
2. Disconnect the Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor electrical connector.
3. Remove the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement.
4. Remove the water pump. Refer to Water Pump Replacement in Cooling System.
5. Remove the CKP sensor. Refer to Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor Replacement.
6. Remove the engine front cover. Refer to Engine Front Cover Removal.
7. Discard the engine front cover.
8. Clean all sealing surfaces.

Installation Procedure





Notice: Do not reuse the engine front cover. Oil leaks may result.

1. Install the NEW engine front cover. Refer to Engine Front Cover Installation.
2. Install the CKP sensor with a NEW seal (O-ring). Refer to Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor Replacement.
3. Install the engine oil pan.
Refer to Oil Pan Replacement.
4. Connect the CKP sensor electrical connector.
5. Install the water pump. Refer to Water Pump Replacement (ALL) or Water Pump Replacement (4.3L) in Cooling System.
6. Install the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement.
