EGR Valve: Service and Repair

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

IMPORTANT: Note the orientation of the EGR valve at the BASE before removing. Do not use the electrical connector as an indication of valve orientation. It is possible to install this EGR valve backwards. An EGR valve installed backwards may cause a rough idle and set DTCs.

1. Disconnect the EGR valve electrical connector.

2. Remove the EGR valve retaining bolts.

3. Remove the EGR valve and gasket.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

1. Clean any remaining gasket material from the EGR mounting surface.

IMPORTANT: Ensure the EGR valve is oriented in the proper direction.

2. Place the EGR gasket between the EGR valve and the intake manifold EGR mounting location.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

3. Insert the retaining bolts through the EGR valve and gasket into the mounting holes.

Tighten
First tighten the bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb in), then tighten the bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).

4. Connect the EGR valve harness connector.
