Shift Cable Replacement

Removal Procedure
1. Remove the battery and the battery tray.
2. Remove cable hold down bolt attached to frame.
3. Remove the cable clip from actuator.
4. Remove cable from actuator.
5. Raise and Suitable support vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
6. Remove the differential shield. Refer to Shield Replacement.





7. Cut the strap holding wire and cable together.
8. Remove the three bolts for the shift cable housing.
9. Remove the cable assembly from the front differential.





10. Remove the spring in order to disconnect the cable from shifter fork.

Installation Procedure

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.





1. Install the shifter cable housing bolts.
^ Tighten the cable assembly to 48 Nm (36 ft. lbs.).
2. Install the cable assembly to the front differential.
^ Tighten the cable assembly to 10 Nm (88 inch lbs.).
3. Install the cable hold down bolt to frame.
^ Tighten the cable hold down bolt to 17 Nm (13 ft. lbs.).
4. Use a new strap to tie the cable and wire together.
5. Install the differential shield. Refer to Shield Replacement.





6. Connect the cable to the actuator.
7. Install the battery tray and the battery.
8. Test drive vehicle and check for the correct operation of 4WD system.
