47. Cylinder Head Disassemble

^ Tools Required
- J8062 Valve Spring Compressor
- J38820 Valve Stem Seal Remove Installer
- J42037 Valve Spring Compressor Adapter/Head Off
- J43059 Valve Stem Key Remover/installer





1. Using an appropriately sized deep socket and a plastic hammer, lightly tap on the valve spring retainer to loosen the valve keepers.

Caution: Compressed valve springs have high tension against the valve spring compressor. Valve springs that are not property compressed by or released from the valve spring compressor can be ejected from the valve spring compressor with intense force. Use care when compressing or releasing the valve spring with the valve spring compressor and when removing or installing the valve stem keys. Failing to use care may cause personal injury.

2. Compress the valve spring using the J8062 and the J42037.





3. Use the magnetic end of the J43059 in order to remove the valve keepers.
4. Remove the valve spring compressor and the pilot.





5. Remove the valve spring retainer (2).





6. Remove the valve spring.

Important: NEVER reuse a valve stem oil seal.





7. Remove the valve stem oil seal using the J38820 and discard.





8. Remove the valve (1).
9. Repeat these procedures for the remaining valves,





10. Remove the water jacket hole expansion plugs from the left cylinder head, if required.





11. Remove the water jacket hole expansion plugs from the right cylinder head, if required.





12. Remove the side oil gallery threaded plugs from the left cylinder head, if required.





13. Remove the side oil gallery threaded plugs from the right cylinder head, if required.





14. Remove the upper water jacket hole threaded plugs from the. left cylinder head, if required.





15. Remove the upper water jacket hole threaded plug from the right cylinder head, if required.
