Oil Filter: Service and Repair

Removal Procedure

^ Tools Required
- J29142 Oil Filter Wrench





1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Position an oil drain pan under the engine oil filter cap and the oil drain plug.
3. Loosen the oil pan drain plug.





4. Remove the oil pan drain plug.
5. Clean and inspect the oil pan drain plug, repair or replace if necessary.
6. Clean and inspect the oil pan drain plug sealing surface on the oil pan, repair or replace oil pan if necessary.





7. Use the J29142 in order to loosen the engine oil filter cap.





8. Remove the oil filter cartridge and engine oil filter cap.
9. Clean and inspect the engine oil filter cap, repair or replace if necessary.
10. Clean and inspect the engine oil filter cap sealing surface on the oil pan, repair or replace oil pan if necessary.

Installation Procedure





1. Install the new oil filter cartridge and engine oil filter cap. Refer to Maintenance Items.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.





2. Use the J29142 in order to tighten the engine oil filter cap.
Tighten the engine oil filter cap to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).





3. Install the oil pan drain plug.





4. Tighten the oil pan drain plug.
Tighten the oil pan drain plug to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).
5. Remove the oil drain pan from under the vehicle.
6. Lower the vehicle.
7. Fill the engine with new engine oil. Refer to Capacities - Approximate Fluid and Fluid and Lubricant Recommendations.
8. Inspect for leaks.
9. Verify oil level.
