Ignition Control Module: Service and Repair

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

1. Disconnect the electrical connector from the ignition control module.
2. Remove the beauty cover (1). Lift at the end opposite the module to release the clip retainer from the ball pin on the cassette. Then slide the cover out of the slide latch in the module.
3. Remove the 4 screws retaining the ignition control module to the coil cassette.
4. Lift the module straight up off the cassette.
5. Check that the mating connector and seal came off with the module. If not, remove the mating connector and seal from the cassette. With the mating connector removed, the cassette will have a female connector cavity with male pins.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

IMPORTANT: When replacing the ignition control module, use the following recommended procedures:
^ Ensure that the mating connector and seal are removed from the coil cassette.
^ When installing a new module, insert the mating connector into the module, install the seal, and apply dielectric grease to the terminals on the mating connector prior to installing into the cassette.
^ Check all the connectors for any damaged terminals.
^ Clean all the mounting surfaces before re-installing any components.

1. Install the ignition control module onto the coil cassette.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

2. Install the 4 screws that retain the ignition control module to the coil cassette.

Tighten
Tighten the screws to 0.8 N.m (7.1 lb in).

3. Install the beauty cover. Slide the latch tongue into the module while holding the opposite end slightly away from the coil cassette surface in order to clear and align the ball pin on the cassette with the clip retainer on the beauty cover. Press the clip retainer down onto the ball pin.
4. Connect the electrical connector to the ignition control module.
