Starter Motor: Service and Repair
REMOVAL PROCEDUREIMPORTANT: The starter motor (PG260 M1) or this vehicle is not serviceable and must be replaced as a complete unit.
1. Disconnect the battery negative cable.
2. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
3. Remove the front lower air deflector. Refer to Radiator Air Baffle Assemblies and Deflectors (Air Baffle) or Radiator Air Baffle Assemblies and Deflectors (Lower) or Radiator Air Baffle Assemblies and Deflectors (Side) in Engine Cooling.
4. Remove the starter solenoid S terminal nut.
5. Remove the starter solenoid S terminal wiring harness connector at the starter motor.
6. Remove the starter solenoid BAT terminal nut.
7. Remove the starter solenoid BAT terminal wiring harness connector at the starter motor.
8. Remove the torque converter cover.
9. Remove the starter bolts. Remove the shims, if necessary.
10. Remove the starter motor.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Make sure the correct starter motor is being installed.
Install the starter motor to the engine.
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
2. Install the starter bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the starter bolts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).
3. Install the torque converter cover.
4. Install the starter solenoid BAT terminal wiring harness connector at the starter motor.
5. Install the starter solenoid BAT terminal nut.
Tighten
Tighten the starter solenoid BAT terminal nut to 10 N.m (84 lb in).
6. Install the starter solenoid S terminal wiring harness connector at the starter motor.
7. Install the starter solenoid S terminal nut.
Tighten
Tighten the starter solenoid S terminal nut to 2 N.m (20 lb in).
8. Install the front lower air deflector.
9. Lower the vehicle.
10. Connect the battery negative cable.
