Rear Knuckle: Service and Repair

Removal Procedure
1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Remove the tires and wheels. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Wheels, Tires and Alignment.





3. Scribe the position of the strut to the knuckle.





4. Disconnect the ABS electrical connector from the wheel speed sensor (1).





5. Disconnect the rear wheel spindle rods from the knuckle (2).
6. Disconnect the trailing arm (3) from the knuckle.
7. Remove the brake caliper and bracket. Refer to Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement - Rear in Disc Brakes.
8. Remove the brake rotor. Refer to Brake Rotor Replacement - Rear in Disc Brakes.
9. Remove the rear wheel hub. Refer to Wheel Bearing/Hub Replacement - Rear.
10. Remove the rear suspension strut to knuckle bolts (1).
11. Remove the rear suspension knuckle.

Installation Procedure
1. Install the rear suspension knuckle.





2. Hand start the rear suspension strut to knuckle bolts (1). Do not tighten the nuts at this time.
3. Connect the rear wheel spindle rods to the knuckle. Refer to Spindle Rod Replacement.
4. Connect the rear suspension trailing arm (1) to the knuckle. Refer to Trailing Arm Replacement.
5. Install the rear wheel hub. Refer to Wheel Bearing/Hub Replacement - Rear.





6. Install the rear wheel hub and park brake assembly.





7. Connect the ABS electrical connector to the wheel speed sensor (1).
8. Install the brake rotor. Refer to Brake Rotor Replacement - Rear in Disc Brakes.
9. Install the brake caliper and bracket. Refer to Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement - Rear in Disc Brakes.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

10. Now tighten the strut to knuckle nuts.
Tighten the strut to knuckle nuts to 112 Nm (82 ft. lbs.).
11. Install the tires and wheels. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Wheels, Tires and Alignment.
12. Lower the vehicle.
13. Check the wheel alignment. Refer to Measuring Wheel Alignment in Wheel Alignment.
