Transfer Case Fluid Replacement

Removal Procedure





Important: When servicing the transfer case, use only hand tools when removing the fill or drain plugs.

1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Remove the transfer case shield.

Important: If the drain or fill plugs are damaged and need to be replaced, use only replacement plugs that are made from aluminum.

3. Remove the transfer case fill plug.

Important: When draining the transfer case fluid, always use an approved container for draining.





4. Remove the transfer case drain plug.

Installation Procedure

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.





1. Install the transfer case drain plug.

Tighten
Tighten the transfer case drain plug to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).





2. Fill the transfer case with the approved fluid.

Tighten
Tighten the transfer case fill plug to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).

3. Install the transfer case shield.
4. Lower the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
