Fuel In Section: 08 - Body and Accessories

Bulletin No.: 01-08-52-005

Date: July, 2001

TECHNICAL

Subject:
Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) System Does Not Function Properly
(Replace Receiver)

Models:
2001 Buick Century, Regal
2002 Buick Rendezvous
2001 Chevrolet Venture
2001 Oldsmobile Intrigue, Silhouette
2001 Pontiac Aztek, Grand Prix, Montana

Condition

Some customers may comment that the RKE key FOB will not function unless they are close to the vehicle. The range of the RKE system is somewhat less than desirable, 2-3 feet (less than 1 m) in some cases, before system will function.

Correction

Replace the remote control door lock receiver. For the Buick Century and Regal, use the procedure listed below. All other models should refer to the Remote Control Door Lock Receiver Replacement procedure in the Keyless Entry sub-section of the appropriate Service Manual. For Pontiac Grand Prix and Oldsmobile Intrigue models built between November-December, 2000, perform the diagnostic procedure below before replacing the receiver.

2. Disconnect the remote control door lock receiver electrical connector.

3. Remove the remote control door lock receiver.

4. Install the remote control door lock receiver.

6. Install the IP cluster. Refer to the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Replacement procedure in Instrument Panel and Console sub-section of the Service Manual.

Grand Prix and intrigue Diagnostic Procedure

Some Grand Prixs and Intrigues built between the VIN range listed below (November-December 2000) may have a driver's door lock rod that is binding in the center support clip when attempting to unlock the doors with the key fob. Inspect the operation of the inside lock knob while using the key fob or the power lock button to assure the knob is moving freely and travels its full cycle prior to condemning the RKE system for all vehicles in the affected VIN range. If the lock knob movement appears to be inhibited, remove the door trim panel and inspect the operation of the lock (upper) rod in the center (white) clip. If the rod is binding in the center clip, it will be rubbing the top of the lip. To correct, remove the rod and adjust the lock side of the rod down approximately 20 mm (3/4 in). Reinstall the rod and observe the rod moving through the clip. If the rod is not moving freely through the center of the clip opening in a horizontal plane, further adjustment may be needed.
