A/C Refrigerant Filter Replacement

TOOLS REQUIRED
J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

REMOVAL PROCEDURE




1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
3. Remove the radiator air baffle bolts.
4. Remove the radiator air baffle.




5. Loosen the A/C refrigerant filter flare nuts.

IMPORTANT: Immediately cap or tape the open evaporator tube and the condenser in order to prevent contamination.

6. Remove the A/C refrigerant filter from the evaporator tube.
7. Discard the O-rings.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE




1. Remove the cap or the tape from the evaporator tube an condenser.
2. Lubricate and install new O-rings to each end of the evaporator tube. Refer to O-Ring Replacement.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

IMPORTANT: Fully seat the A/C filter to the ferrules in order to ensure that the O-rings seat inside the filter housing.

3. Install the A/C refrigerant filter to the evaporator inlet tube with the arrow pointing toward the evaporator.

Tighten
Tighten the A/C refrigerant filter flare nuts to 15 N.m (11 lb ft).




4. install the radiator air deflector.
5. Install the radiator air deflector bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the A/C refrigerant filter flare nuts to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).

6. Lower the vehicle.
7. Evacuate and charge the refrigerant system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
8. Leak test the fittings of the component using J 39400-A.
