Instrument Panel (IP) - Trim Pad Replacement - Upper
REMOVAL PROCEDURE1. Disconnect the battery negative cable.
2. Remove the instrument panel (I/P) outer trim covers.
3. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in Restraint Systems.
4. Remove the side upper garnish moldings from the windshield.
5. Remove the I/P defroster grille..
6. Remove the I/P insulators.
7. Remove the I/P compartment..
8. Remove the passenger inflator module.
9. Remove the accessory trim plate from the I/P.
10. For the Oldsmobile only, disconnect the vacuum hose harness and the electrical connectors from the HVAC control assembly.
11. Remove the cluster trim plate from the I/P.
12. Remove the I/P cluster.
13. Remove the radio.
14. For the Pontiac only, remove the HVAC control assembly.
15. Remove the steering wheel.
16. Remove the multifunction turn signal lever.
17. Remove the cup holder.
18. Remove the bracket fasteners to the floor console center support.
19. Remove the bolts from the ignition switch.
20. Remove the fog lamp switch.
21. Disconnect the outboard electrical connections from the electrical junction block.
22. Remove the screws connecting the I/P to the cross car beam.
23. On the Pontiac, remove the I/P from the I/P reinforcement.
24. On the Oldsmobile, remove the I/P from the I/P reinforcement.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. On the Oldsmobile, install the I/P to the I/P reinforcement.
2. On the Pontiac, install the I/P to the I/P reinforcement.
3. Install the screws connecting the I/P to the I/P reinforcement.
4. Connect the outboard connectors to the electrical junction block.
5. Install the fog lamp switch.
6. Install the bolts to the ignition switch.
7. Install the bracket fasteners to the floor console center support.
8. Install the cup holder.
9. Install the multifunction turn signal lever.
10. Install the steering wheel.
11. For the Pontiac only, install the HVAC control assembly.
12. Install the radio.
13. Install the I/P cluster.
14. For the Oldsmobile only, connect the vacuum hose harness and the electrical connectors to the HVAC control assembly.
15. Install the trim plate to the I/P cluster.
16. Install the I/P accessory trim plate.
17. Install the passenger inflator module.
18. Install the I/P compartment.
19. Install the I/P insulators.
20. Install the I/P defroster grille.
21. Install the side upper garnish moldings to the windshield.
22. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in Restraint Systems.
23. Install the I/P outer trim covers.
24. Connect the battery negative cable.
