Fuel Filter: Service and Repair

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

IMPORTANT: There is no service interval for fuel filter replacement. Only replace the fuel filter if restricted.




1. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief Procedure.
2. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
3. Remove the quick-connect fitting at the inlet of the fuel filter.
4. Remove the quick-connect fitting at the outlet of the fuel filter.
5. Drain any remaining fuel into an approved gasoline container.
6. Remove the fuel filter mounting bracket attaching nut.
7. Remove the fuel filter and mounting bracket.
8. Remove the fuel filter from the fuel filter mounting bracket.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE




1. Remove the protective caps from the new fuel filter.
2. Install the fuel filter into the fuel filter mounting bracket.
3. Install the fuel filter and mounting bracket.
4. Install the fuel filter mounting bracket attaching nut.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

Tighten
Tighten the nut to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

5. Connect the quick-connect fitting at the inlet of the fuel filter.
6. Connect the quick-connect fitting at the outlet of the fuel filter.
7. Lower the vehicle.
8. Connect the negative battery cable.
9. Inspect for fuel leaks.
9.1. Turn ON the ignition for 2 seconds.
9.2. Turn OFF the ignition for 10 seconds.
9.3. Turn ON the ignition.
9.4. Inspect for fuel leaks.
