A/C - New Trinary Switch

SUBJECT: AIR CONDITIONER TRINARY SWITCH REPLACEMENT
MODELS: ALL 405 AND 505 VEHICLES PRIOR TO MODEL YEAR 1991
SERVICE AND PARTS INFORMATION:
Replacement Air Conditioner Trinary Switches P/N 6455.G8 and 6455.J6 have been superceded to the 1991 Model Year style Trinary Switch P/N 6455.L1.
- This new switch must be used in conjunction with a sealed electrical connector which is mounted directly onto the body of the trinary switch.
- An adapter wiring harness P/N 6542.A8 is required to install this new switch on 405 and 505 vehicles manufactured prior to the 1991 Model Year.
ADAPTER WIRING HARNESS INSTALLATION:
NOTE: The adapter wiring harness 4-pin connector is fitted with 5 wires, identified as follows:
Pin 1 Wire No. V1
Pin 2 Wire No. V2
Pin 3 2 Wires, Nos. V3 & V3
Pin 4 Wire No. V4
- Install the new air conditioner trinary switch on the vehicle
- On the vehicle wiring harness side connector, one pin at a time, cut the wire from the terminal as close as possible to the original connector and immediately crimp to the corresporiding wire number on the adapter wiring harness. Use the appropriate size splice connectors supplied with the adapter wiring harness when making double wire crimps (blue connector).
NOTE: The smaller gauge of the two V3 wires on the adapter wiring harness is not always needed in this application and must be insulated with the black heat shrink connector supplied with the adapter wiring harness.
ELECTRICAL CONNECTION EXAMPLE: (1985 505 XN6 wiring used in this example)
REMINDER:
Regardless of the number of wires in each pin or the wire reference numbers on models different from this example, always connect according to pin number's (Pin 1 to V1, Pin 2 to V2, Pin 3 to V3, Pin 4 to V4).
