Fog Lamp - Vibration

88peugeot02

BULLETIN NO. 274

DATE: May, 1988
SUBJECT: FOG LAMP VIBRATION - MODIFIED FOG LAMP BRACKETS

MODELS: TURBO SEDANS AND WAGONS, STX SEDANS (VEHICLES WITH DEEP FRONT SPOILER - MODEL YEARS 1985-1988)

COMPLAINT: Fog lamps vibrate in the vertical plane when car hits bumps, sometimes even at idle.

Complaints can be from oncoming motorists or from the drivers of the affected vehicles.

DIAGNOSIS: Fog lamp brackets do not have sufficient stiffness in the area of the single-bolt mounting hole.

PARTS REQUIRED:

Modified fog lamp bracket, P/N 7416.07, 2 per vehicle (includes washer 10 mm ID x 25 mm OD x 1.5 mm thickness)
NOTE: Only modified brackets are stocked

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

- Remove fog lamps from bracket (13 mm hex head nut)

- Remove fog lamp brackets from vehicle (13 mm hex head bolt)

NOTE: This same bolt holds horn bracket with horn

FIGURE 1:

- When installing the modified bracket, add the supplied washer on top of the bracket mounting hole to further stiffen the area and create a larger bracket to body contact surface. (See Fig. 1)

FIGURE 2:

- Because of the reinforcement side walls on the fog lamp brackets, the horn brackets must also be modified as shown in Fig. 2 below.

- Make sure the parts are installed in the correct order:
1. Spoiler bracket (against body)
2. Fog lamp bracket
3. Big washer
4. Horn bracket (modified)
5. Eyelet on fog lamp ground wire
6. Original small washer (under mounting bolt's head)
7. Mounting bolt

- Orient brackets in a straight-ahead position

- Orient horn brackets in such a way that horn trumpet opening is facing 30~ inward (against frame rail). (See S.B. No. 235, Class 12, dated April, 1987).

- Tighten the mounting bolt

(Do not overtorque bolt as it may easily break)

- Install fog lamps in the brackets

- Align fog lamps in accordance with diagram found in "Peugeot Fog
Light Installation Instructions" and/or applicable federal and state regulations

Abbreviated Alignment Instructions

- At 25 feet distance from a wall, mark the center of the headlamp (high beam) image. (We assume headlamps are already correctly adjusted.)

- Aim the fog lamps in such a manner that the top edge of the high intensity zone is located 4" below the headlamp image center.

- Also ascertain that the fog lamp high intensity zone is within 6" left or right of the headlamp image vertical centerline.

- Tighten the mounting nut firmly (do not overtorque).

- -check alignment (realign if not correct).
