Fuel Injection - Erratic Rough Idling

Subject: 505 XN6 FUEL INJECTION. ENGINE IDLE QUALITY AND DRIVEABILITY.
Description And Vehicle Production Range:
1985 505 XN6 engine vehicles manufactured between November 1984 and June 1985 have been equipped with fuel injector hoses with an inside diameter of 3 MM. (V.I.N.'s: 0380740 to 0393000).
This increase in diameter has had an effect on the idle quality of the engine (erratic rough idling). Standard transmission equipped vehicles, may also be affected by slight hesitations and/or bucking during light throttle opening between 2000 to 3000 R.P.M.'s.
Production Modification:
Beginning with 1986 Model Year production, 505 XN6 engine vehicles will be equipped with fuel injector hoses with an inside diameter of 2 MM instead of 3 MM.
Service Field Fix:
In case of customer complaints, replace the four injector hoses (between fuel distributor head and injectors) using part numbers:
1 P/N 1561.C8
1 P/N 1561.C9
1 P/N 1561.E0
1 P/N 1561.E1
- Use 8 new copper washers (2 per banjo fittings on fuel distributor head side) part number: 1562.40.
- Torque the fuel distributor to injector hose banjo fittings to 1 daN-m (7.25 ft.lbs.).
- Torque the injectors to the fuel injection hoses to 2 daN-m (14.5 ft.lbs.).
NOTE: BEFORE REPLACING INJECTOR HOSES, DISCONNECT THE BATTERY GROUND CABLE.
