Engine - No Start/Water Leaks Into Relays

SUBJECT: ENGINE COMPARTMENT RELAYS AND BRACKET PROTECTION
MODELS: 1987 AND 1988 TURBO SEDANS AND STATION WAGONS 1987 AND 1988 V6 SEDANS
POSSIBLE COMPLAINT:
No start condition, engine does not crank over, or engine cranks over but does not start.
CAUSE:
During torrential rain storms combined with high speed driving, water may be forced back and leak onto the relay assembly located above the fuse box and create poor electrical contacts between relay terminals and connectors.
PRODUCTION CHANGE:
Beginning with vehicle VIN 422870, the relay assembly is covered by a plastic protecting sleeve.
SERVICE PROCEDURE:
During routine maintenance or if starting problems have been experienced, remove the relay bracket securing nut (10 mm) located on cowl panel above the fuse box.
Inspect condition of relay terminals and connectors. Only if traces of corrosion are present, install new relays and clean connector terminals.

IMPORTANT: THE "CHANGEOVER" AND "DOUBLE OUTLET" RELAYS ARE NOT INTERCHANGEABLE. MAKE SURE THAT YOU REINSTALL THEN IN THE CORRECT LOCATION (REMOVE AND REINSTALL ONE AT AT TIME).
IDENTIFICATION:
Even if no trace of corrosion is found, install a plastic bag such as Peugeot Parts Bag, P/N 0095.31, over the relay and bracket assembly. Use the mounting stud in the bracket to puncture a hole through the plastic bag and reinstall the bracket onto the cowl panel.
