Air Flow Meter/Sensor: Description and Operation

Air Flow Meter/Air Intake Sensor:

PURPOSE
The air flow meter measures the amount of air entering the intake manifold to provide the control unit with precise air volume information.

LOCATION
Intake air flow is measured by a spring loaded flap which is connected to a potentiometer. As air is drawn into the engine, the flap is deflected which causes the wiper contact of the potentiometer to move. The potentiometer signal represents the air volume entering the engine.
