4 Defective SMEC/Fuel Pump & or Restricted Fuel Lines


PERFORM NO START TEST 2 BEFORE PROCEEDING.
1. Connect diagnostic readout box, enter into ``Actuate Solenoid/Rly'' test and select ``Auto Shutdown Relay,'' then walk to rear of vehicle and listen for fuel pump noise.
2. If fuel pump is running, proceed as follows:
a. Check fuel lines for any restrictions, repair as necessary.
b. Check all fuel filters, replace as necessary.
c. If fuel pressure is still unsatisfactory, replace in-tank fuel pump, then proceed to Test 16.
3. If fuel pump is not running, set diagnostic readout box to ``Stop All Tests.''
4. Raise and support vehicle.
5. Disconnect fuel pump connector and inspect terminal for damage.
6. Enter diagnostic readout box into ``Actuate Solenoid/Rly'' test and select ``Auto Shutdown Relay,'' then press Volt/Ohm button to enter voltmeter mode.
7. Touch volt/ohmmeter probe to dark green/black wire at pump connector.
8. If voltage is not pulsating over 10 volts, repair open in dark green/black wire at chassis harness, then proceed to Test 16.
9. If voltage is pulsating over 10 volts, set diagnostic readout box to ``Stop All Tests.''
10. Press Volt/Ohm button to enter into ohmmeter mode, then touch probe to gray wire of fuel pump connector.
11. If display reads 0 ohms, replace in-tank fuel pump, then proceed to Test 16.
12. If display does not read 0 ohms, repair open in gray wire of body wiring harness.
