Flow of Diagnosis

Flow of Diagnosis:

1. Get accurate description of complaint. Road test vehicle to verify complaint. Perform underhood inspection.

VISUALLY CHECK:

(a) Vacuum hoses for splits, kinks, and proper routing.
(B) Ignition wiring for cracking, hardness, and proper connections at both the distributor and spark plugs.
(c) All wiring for proper connections, pinches and cuts.
(d) Wiring harness for proper routing.
(e) Check for missing components.
2. Check TSB'S for manual updates, testing procedures, warranty and recall information.
3. The on-board diagnostic check may be performed using the "CHECK ENGINE" lamp to display fault codes. Cycle the ignition switch on, off, on, off, on within five seconds and any fault codes stored in the memory will be displayed in a series of flashes representing digits. The CHECK ENGINE lamp will come on for 2 seconds as a bulb check before the fault codes are displayed. Lamp pauses approximately 4 seconds between codes.
4. If code 55, end of the diagnostic mode, is the only code displayed, then no codes have been set indicating there are no SBEC related problems. If other codes are displayed along with code 55, or no codes are displayed at all, then you must refer to TESTING PROCEDURES in COMPUTERIZED ENGINE CONTROLS. If excessive emission levels exist after correcting SBEC related problem(s) or determining that no codes have been stored, then proceed to step 5.
