Positive Crankcase Ventilation: Description and Operation

Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) System:

PURPOSE

PCV system reduces crankcase emissions.

OPERATION

Crankcase vapors drawn through PCV valve into intake plenum, by engine vacuum. Vapors mix with air/fuel mixture, and are burned during combustion.

CONSTRUCTION

Closed system consists of PCV valve, hose from PCV valve to intake plenum, crankcase inlet air filter (mounted inside air cleaner housing), and hose connecting valve cover to air cleaner assembly.

NOTE: PCV valve should only be replaced with valve designed for this system.
