NOTE:
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES BUILT AFTER 02/07/93 (MDH 0207XX) AND PRIOR TO 4/25/93 (MDH 0425XX).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Some vehicles may experience start-up die-out, reduced power, or erratic transmission shifting. This may be the result of low fuel pressure caused by a check valve in the fuel pump not seating properly.
NOTE:
ALL VEHICLES IN DEALER INVENTORY AND ANY CUSTOMER VEHICLES WITH LESS THAN 1000 MILES THAT ARE AT THE DEALERSHIP, SHOULD HAVE THE FUEL PUMP INSPECTED FOR A BUILD DATE CODE (LOCATED ON THE TOP OF THE FUEL PUMP MODULE FLANGE), THAT IS HIGHER THAN 0973X FOR AA, AC, AJ, AP, AS, AY, AND 0983X FOR LH. IF A LOWER THAN SPECIFIED BUILD DATE CODE IS DISCOVERED, THE FUEL PUMP SHOULD BE REPLACED PRIOR TO DELIVERY OF THE VEHICLE TO THE CUSTOMER.
DIAGNOSIS:
For sold vehicles that exhibit the symptom/condition above and have more than 1,000 miles, use the "Checking Fuel Pressure" section (test NTC-3 or NS-2) of the appropriate Powertrain Diagnostic Procedure Manual. If the fuel pump is determined to be defective, perform the repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:
This bulletin involves inspecting the fuel pump build date code on vehicles with less than 1,000 miles and possible replacement of the fuel pump. On vehicles with more than 1,000 miles, replace the fuel pump only if diagnosis determines it to be defective.
1. After inspecting the build date code, if less than 1,000 miles, or performing the diagnostic procedure, replace the fuel pump as necessary. Refer to the procedure outlined in section 14 of the appropriate vehicle 1993 service manual.
