1A Checking System For Fault Codes - START HERE -

1. Connect diagnostic read-out tool to engine test connector.
2. Within five seconds, cycle ignition switch On and Off twice, then place ignition switch in the On position and record all fault codes. If code sequence is 13, 14, 15, 17, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 31, 33, 35, 37, 51, 52 or 53 or if no code 88 is indicated, proceed to step 9 and perform tests indicated.
3. Turn ignition switch off, then erase fault codes by disconnecting and connecting battery electrical connector.
4. Start engine and run for five minutes. Do not depress accelerator pedal to start engine.
5. Increase engine speed to 2000 RPM for ten seconds, then return to idle.
6. Shift transmission through all gear ranges and cycle A/C button on and off, then turn engine off.
7. Within five seconds, cycle ignition on and off twice, then turn on and record all codes.
8. If codes displayed are the same as those in step 2, proceed to step 9 and perform tests indicated. If codes are not repeated, proceed to Test 1 step O. 1O Checking Intermittent Failure
9. Initiate the appropriate diagnosis for the following fault code displays:
a. Code sequence 88-12-55 indicates no fault codes are present. Proceed to Test 1 step B. 1B Output Circuits of Logic Module
b. Code sequence 88-12-13-55, 88-12-14-55 or 88-12-13-14-55 indicates a fault in the MAP sensor circuit. Proceed to Test 2. 2A Fault Codes 13 &/or 14 MAP Sensor Circuit
c. Code sequence 88-12-15-55 indicates a fault in the speed sensor circuit. Proceed to Test 3. 3A Fault Code 15 Speed Sensor Circuit
d. Code sequence 88-12-17-55 indicates engine running too cool. Check cooling system thermostat and replace as required.
e. Code sequence 88-12-21-55 indicates a fault in the oxygen sensor circuit. Proceed to Test 4. 4A Fault Code 21 Oxygen Sensor Circuit
f. Code sequence 88-12-22-55 or 88-12-17-22-55 indicates a fault in the engine coolant sensor circuit. Proceed to Test 5. 5A Fault Code 22 Coolant Sensor Circuit
g. Code sequence 88-12-23-55 indicates a fault in the throttle body temperature sensor circuit. Proceed to Test 6. 6A Fault Code 23 Throttle Body Temperature Sensor
h. Code sequence 88-12-24-55 indicates a fault in the throttle position sensor circuit. Proceed to Test 7. 7A Fault Code 24 Throttle Position Sensor Circuit
