Fuel Filter: Description and Operation

Fuel Pump In Tank Cut Away:

IN-TANK FILTER
The first stage fuel filter is an in-tank sock style filter mounted on the pick-up tube of the fuel pump. This filter removes contaminants and particles from the fuel prior to the fuel entering the fuel pump. It does not generally require service, but is replaceable if necessary.

Fuel Filter:

IN-LINE FUEL FILTER
In addition to the sock style filter found on the fuel pump, all models have an in-line fuel filter mounted between the fuel tank and engine, under the vehicle. Due to the sensitivity of fuel injected engines this filter removes smaller contaminants that may have passed through the sock type filter.

NOTE: The manufacturer does not give a recommended service interval for the fuel filter; however, the fuel filter can be tested to determine if it is defective. Fuel System Diagnosis
