California Emissions Recall # 716 -- Reprogram PCM

^ This service requirement applies only to 1993 model year Dodge Spirit and Plymouth Acclaim (AA) vehicles equipped with a 2.5L flex fuel engine ("V in the 8th VIN position) and California Emission Control System built through May 13, 1993 (MDH 051318)

^ California Air Resources Board (CARB) regulations require Chrysler Corporation to obtain additional Non-Methane Organic Gases (NMOG) credits to be in compliance. The flexible fuel vehicles (FFV) listed above were originally certified to CARB Tier 0 standards. Regulatory compliance can be achieved by updating these vehicles to a Transitional Low Emission Vehicle (TLEV) configuration. To accomplish this, the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) must be reprogrammed (flashed) and a new VECI label must be installed.

^ Be sure to provide a Vehicle Emission Recall Proof of Correction Form (Form No. 81-016-1053) to each owner upon completion of the recall service, for owner use as proof during renewal of the vehicle registration.

^ The PCM software which is loaded during the recall service procedure also includes any other PCM updates which may have been released (i.e. TSB's) between the date of manufacture and the issuance of the TIL CD update which was used.

Parts Packages:

^ Each involved dealer, to whom vehicles in the recall were invoiced, will receive enough Label Packages to service 25% of those vehicles.
