Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

Diagnostic Notes (Read Before Proceeding)

This section is used to find the correct test procedure for a given symptom. The symptoms and actions in this section are FUEL RELATED ONLY. Verify the correct system application to ensure that the vehicle has the given component.

CAUTION: Never operate vehicle on 100 % methanol. Operate vehicle on unleaded gasoline [1], or a mixture of unleaded gasoline [1] and up to 85% methanol.

[1] Minimum posted octane rating of 87.

PRE-CHECKS:

1. Check for adequate fuel supply in fuel tank. DO NOT RELY ON FUEL GAUGE!
2. Verify battery is fully charged.
3. Verify fuse/fuse link integrity.
4. Inspect all hoses, fuel lines, and connections for fuel leaks, kinks and proper routing.
5. Verify correct fuel type and quality.
6. Check TSB's for fuel system updates.

THROTTLE BODY DEPOSITS

It is common for deposits to form in the throttle body and intake plenum.

Deposits on the throttle plate, and throttle bore, which reduce the minimum air flow gap, can cause idle and driveability problems, (stalling at stops, rough or unstable idle), that may or may not set a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). SEE THROTTLE BODY MINIMUM AIR FLOW TEST.

CAUTION: Methanol will damage components designed for gasoline engines. Always replace the following components with flexible fuel replacement parts, (parts will be green in appearance or have a green tag or label attached):

^ Fuel Pump Module
^ Fuel Level Sensor
^ Fuel Gauge (gauge cluster)
^ Fuel Tank
^ Fuel Pressure Regulator (including O-rings)
^ Fuel Rail
^ Fuel Injectors (including O-rings)
^ Fuel Tubes
^ Fuel Filter
^ EVAP Canister
^ Fuel Filler Cap
^ Fuel Filler Tube
^ Pressure Relief/Rollover Valve
^ All fuel system and emission system hoses and tubes.
