Vent Window Latch Pops Open, Won't Stay Open or Rattles

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The sliding door vent window latch pops open when the sliding door is slammed closed. This condition may be caused by either mis-adjustment of the latch or insufficient friction between the latch body and the pivot pins.
DIAGNOSIS:
Slam the sliding door closed several times. If the sliding door vent window latch does not remain in its fully latched position, perform the repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:
This bulletin involves adjusting the sliding door vent window latch or replacing it if the adjustment is not successful.
1. Remove the trim plugs covering the three rear most retaining screws of the sliding door upper frame molding, then remove the screws.
2. Loosen the two hex head screws attaching the sliding door vent window latch to the sliding door frame and slide the latch as for forward as possible. Torque the hex head screws to 85 in.lbs. (9.6 N-m).
3. Slam the sliding door closed several times. If the sliding door vent window latch remains in its fully latched position, install the sliding door upper frame molding retaining screws and trim plugs. The repair is complete. If the sliding door vent window latch does not remain in its fully latched position, proceed to step 4.
4. Replace the original sliding door vent window latch with a revised latch which has metal roll pins as specified in the "Parts Required" section of this bulletin. Install the body half of the latch so it is as far forward as possible. Torque the screw attaching the glass half of the latch to 60 in.lbs. (6.8 N-m) and the screws attaching the body half to 85 in.lbs. (9.6 N-m).
5. Install the sliding door upper frame molding retaining screws and trim plugs.
