Adaptation of Special Tool P200a for Oil Cooler Testing

Testing of the oil cooler for leakage is an important step when diagnosing and repairing oil and coolant intermixing. The following procedure is an alternative to subletting the cooler for testing.

Porsche Special Tool P200a can assist you during this testing procedure. Items 2 and 4 through 9 listed below or their equivalents should be readily available at an auto parts or hardware store.








Refer to Figures 1 and 2.

1. P200a - obtain through PCNA Parts Department (PN 000 721 200 10)

2. O-Ring - 6 mm inside diameter fit between allen bolt & holder.

3. Allen bolt - included with P200a.

4. Holder - utilize suitable cup type fixture, 23 mm inside diameter drill 6 mm hole for alien bolt.

5. Slip washer - 7/16 inch, for sealing the neck of the oil cooler in holder.

6. Rubber gasket - for sealing opposite neck of oil cooler.

7. Holder - similar to item 4, 3/8 inch pipe thread to accept angle fitting.

8. Angle fitting - 3/8 inch pipe thread to match holder, also threaded to accept schrader valve.

9. Schrader valve.








Assemble the items as shown in Figure 3. Securely clamp the cooler in the fixture as shown in Figure 4. Pressurize the cooler to 5 bar with a regulated shop air source. Submerge the assembly in clear water and check for visible air bubbles from the cooler matrix. After testing is complete, release any residual pressure at the schrader valve prior to removal from tool P200a.
