Computers and Control Systems: Description and Operation

The Digital Motor Electronics (DME) system is used on 911 (exc. Turbo), 924 S, 944, 944 S and 944 Turbo models. This system is a total engine control system which incorporates an electronic control unit (ECU). The ECU receives input data from various sensors and uses this input data to maintain ignition timing, ignition dwell, ignition advance and air/fuel ratio at or near ideal operating conditions.
