Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Distributor: Service and Repair

REMOVING AND INSTALLING DISTRIBUTOR

Removing

1. Set cylinder 1 at TDC.

2. Remove heated air elbow.

3. Take ignition leads out of holders.

4. Unscrew and take off distributor cap.

5. Unscrew distributor and pull it out of engine block.

Installing

1. Set cylinder 1 at TDC.

2. Check seal on distributor shaft, replacing if necessary.

3. Turn distributor rotor that after installation of the distributor center of rotor is aligned with notch in housing.

Note: Basic ignition adjustments are not necessary. The distributor only has the task of distributing high voltage. Centrifugal control only effects the distributor rotor and prevents ignition in a different cylinder with max. ignition timing control.
