Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

Work Procedure

1. Disconnect battery.

2. Cut tie wrap for both fuel hoses.

3. Open fuel tank filler cap to release pressure.

4. Loosen fuel hose at pressure damper.

NOTE: Counter-hold pressure damper with a 24 mm wrench and catch fuel residue from hose/damper.

5. Check imprints on the metal hose sleeve and compare. If the name "Argus" and the month "Feb." or "Jan." or the year "1985" appears, the hose is not defective.

At this point do the following:

- tighten fuel hose nut

- install new tie wrap on the two hoses

- mark the hose near the fitting with a red paint dot

- reconnect battery

- tighten fuel filler cap

- start engine and check for leaks

6. If the following numbers are seen, 11 and 4, 12 and 4, 1 and 5, 2 and 5, without any other markings, the hose must be modified as per the attached drawing (fig. 1).

7. Turn the protective sleeve for the hose and push back 20 to 30 mm. Cut the fuel hose off 6 mm behind the crimped metal sleeve.

8. Turn the protective sleeve for the hose and pull out approximately 50 mm, cut off 35 mm of the protective sleeve and push back.

9. Install new hose clamp on fuel hose, clamp end must point towards the intake manifold.

10. Push new nipple-fitting all the way into the cut-off fuel hose until the stop.

11. Install fuel hose on the pressure damper (counter-hold with 24 mm wrench) and tighten hose clamp. The correct distance for the hose clamp is 5 mm from the hose end (fig. 1). The clamp should be pointing towards the fuel distribution tube with the tightening screw upwards.
12. Check distance from hose clamp to ignition cables, it should be at least 5 mm. If necessary, turn bracket of pressure damper to get more clearance.

13. Check the fuel hose protective sleeve, the fuel hose should be completely covered in the area where it enters the wheel well, if necessary, pull protective sleeve down.

14. Install tie wrap on the two fuel hoses and tighten the fuel filler cap.

15. Reconnect battery.

16. Start engine and check for leaks.
