Catalytic Converter: Description and Operation

The catalytic converter reduces hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide in the exhaust by oxidizing these exhaust components. Models equipped with exhaust gas oxygen sensors are equipped with three-way catalysts which reduce nitrogen oxides in addition to oxidizing hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide.
