To identify an engine by the manufacturer's code, follow the four steps designated by the numbered blocks.

Driver's side windshield pillar, visible through windshield.

10th character of VIN

1990 - L
1989 - K
1988 - J
1987 - H
1986 - G
1985 - F
1984 - E
1983 - D
1982 - C
1981 - B






(2) ENGINE CODE LOCATION:


Prefix to engine number.
4-cyl. - 1988-90: Passenger's side of engine block, next to clutch housing. 1981-87: Driver's side of crankcase, next to clutch housing.
6-cyl. - Passenger's side of crankcase, next to fan housing.
8-cyl. - Top of front crankcase reinforcing rib.
