Ignition Timing: Adjustments

The timing is controlled by the digital motor electronics (DME). It can only be checked, there are no provisions for adjustment.
1. Run engine to operating temperature.
2. Connect timing light.
3. Check ignition timing at crankshaft pulley, Fig. 52.
4. Timing should be 10° ±2° BTDC at idle.
5. If timing is not correct, check engine and distributor for possible mechanical or digital motor electronics (DME) failure (see COMPUTERIZED ENGINE CONTROLS).
6. Disconnect timing light.
